“Hey Team!” “Hey Coach!” How to Herd Cats & Hit the Ground Running
According to Wikipedia, “Herding Cats is an idiomatic saying that refers to an attempt to control or organize a set of entities which are uncontrollable or chaotic.”  No doubt 50 kindergartners or 5th graders in the gym constitute an “entity.”  Chaotic perhaps, but most certainly not uncontrollable!  Each and every day, my student’s literally hit the ground running the moment they enter the gym, and the “chaos” is managed as seamlessly as can be expected given the gym is full of Kinder Cats.  In this session, I will share PE Power Words (an interactive management system), and Boogie Woogie Warm-ups (fun fitness routines cued to music).   Without them my instructional life would be harder than bagging flies (which is definitely more challenging than herding cats).

Tchoukball is a truly unique team sport for ALL ages. Invented in the 1960's by a Swiss Biologist, it is enjoyed around the world both competitively and recreationally. Primarily a throwing and catching game, it uses two Tchouks (rebounders) to score. Defenders utilize the coverage of space rather than opponents which allows students of all skill levels to enjoy a non- aggressive competitive game together. Come and watch Tchoukball, now in over 5000 physical education curriculums. You Can’t Spell resPEct Without PE!- General Session
You have heard the saying, “Those who can’t do, teach.”  To add insult to injury, Woody Allen said in the 1977 Oscar winning movie Annie Hall, “And those who can’t teach, teach gym!”  Sadly, Mr. Allen never met quality physical education teachers.  Had he done so, he would have quickly realized that you can’t spell resPEct without PE!  For that matter you can’t spell hoPE, comPEte, PErform, or shaPE without PE.  Come laugh, have fun, and celebrate our profession and learn a variety of Jim’s favorite activities, creative teaching techniques, and unique instructional strategies.  Rest assured – you'll walk away with new ideas you can use immediately, and your students will never forget that you can’t spell resPEct without PE!

Go Green, Go Lean! Quick Assessment Routines – My Quest For Simplicity
We are “required” to give written tests in P.E.  Personally, I’d rather stick a knife in a toaster than administer a written test to 50 kids, repeat this for 7 classes, and grade 650 papers each 9-week grading period (for those scoring at home that is 28.1 papers each day of the school year).  Thus, I have embarked on a daring assessment quest to GO GREEN (find paperless solutions) and GO LEAN (kids work out – not write out –answers).  Practical for teachers, fun for kids.  Yes, assessment is important, but it doesn’t have to hurt (unless you’re a super villain named Fat Cat, Sheriff Lazy Bones, Couch Potato All Rottón, or Princess Peer Pressure).
